SLIPPERY ELM BY ROOT
SLIPPERY ELM BY ROOT
Slippery Elm bark is a wonderful herb to have around, and Root & Spring is proud to offer it in a liquid tincture form that is very easy to take-- squirt the recommended dosage into a glass of water, tea, or juice, or just squirt directly on the back of your tongue to use.
This herb is rich in "mucilage" (think about something "slippery", like okra or aloe), which is a substance that coats all the internal mucous membranes of the digestive tract. It also absorbs into the gut & intestinal linings, where it helps remove toxins and provide nourishment and healing... and by doing this it helps the body address some of the foundational, deep causes of chronic digestive disorders (like leaky gut). Slippery Elm may also help balance the gut microbiome by promoting the growth and health of “good” bacteria (e.g. Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, and Bacteroides species) that promote gut-lining health and protect against obesity.
Lastly (regarding digestion), the soothing qualities of this herb help with acid reflux, also known as GERD. It is thought to be effective at creating a barrier that prevents the stomach acid being released into the esophagus. Also good to soothe and help heal ulcers.
In the lungs, Slippery Elm helps address hot, dry cough and other upper-respiratory complaints characterized by dryness, thirst, and/or heat. It has also been found to be highly effective against sore throats (again, dry & hot).
What is it good for:
- stomach and duodenal ulcers
- Acid reflux (GERD)
- many chronic digestive complaints (e.g. constipation-type IBS, leaky gut)
